Return to Your First Love – Revelation chapters 2&3 Explained

Several people often think that Jesus’s messages to the churches found in the book of Revelation are just historical warnings to the particular congregations they are addressed to. Though it’s true that these were warnings to particular congregations, these messages also have a broader application because even today, they are relevant to all believers.

Do you remember what it was like in the first beautiful days of falling in love? Unable to eat or sleep, pining for the times to be in their presence or just to hear their voice again, these were consuming days that followed. We may find that returning to our first love is more than just returning of our teenage yes of falling in love. We may come full circle to a more mature love and deeper love with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Return to your first love – people often wonder what the holy scriptures have to say about it. By comprehending the deeper meaning of the messages to the seven churches as one finds in chapters 2 and 3 of the Book of Revelation, it becomes clear that what this refers to is the return to your first love – Jesus. Jesus’s message as is Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, and 22 ask believers to carefully listen to and heed what He says.  One can consider Christ’s message to Ephesus (Revelation 2:2) where He praises them for their patience and hard work, and even commends them for rejecting liars and false teachers. It’s only through Him that humans who have sinned and wandered away from the path of God come back to the right path and have been redeemed themselves by arriving at a new, stronger position of commitment and dedication. Complete surrender to him and having faith in Him is the only way to purge all negative things from life.
